This afternoon in Hamburg, Celebrity Cruises named its fourth new ship in less than three years. The Celebrity Silhouette joins her three older sisters in the Solstice class–the Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox, and Celebrity Eclipse.
I’ve been on the new ship for about 12 hours now, and already love the few changes Celebrity has made to this ship. I’ll be adding some photos and information on the new ship over the next few weeks. Although anyone who has sailed on any of her three sisters will find many familiar venues, the cruise line has made some significant changes at the Lawn Club. Don’t worry–the green grass is still there.
Gone is the Corning Glass Works show, which was replaced by the Lawn Club Grill, an outdoor restaurant that looks like it will be great fun since guests can select and grill their own meats or have the chefs cook it for you. I’ll be dining at the Lawn Club Grill tomorrow night and will have more about it later. ….MORE

ABOARD THE CELEBRITY SILHOUETTE — Celebrity Cruises has unveiled a new ship every year since 2008. But it appears the age of rapid growth at the line is about to come to an end.
Celebrity Cruises CEO Dan Hanrahan told cruise writers today the 21-year-old company currently has no plans for additional vessels beyond one already on order for delivery in 2012. ….MORE
“We’ve taken an awful lot (of new capacity) in a very, very short time,”
Hanrahan said during a press conference on board the line’s newest ship, the
2,886-passenger Celebrity Silhouette. “At this point we don’t have any plans for
a new class of ship.”
