FORT LAUDERDALE— A passenger lounging on the upper deck of the cruise ship Discovery Sun saw something unusual between the blue waters of the Caribbean and the blue horizon: a sinking boat throwing up smoke, and nearby, people clinging to debris. “We were just kind of shocked to see the scenario play out in front of us,” Brandon Strozier said during a phone interview on Tuesday. “It was just like you see in the movies.” ….MORE

Crew members from the Discovery Sun cruise ship rescued six persons who were
in distress after their boat caught fire and sunk in waters between Grand Bahama
and Fort Lauderdale on Monday.
Discovery Cruise Line officials say the ship had just left the Freeport Harbour when the crew received a report that there was a boat explosion about 16 miles off the shore of Grand Bahama.
The ship was redirected to the location where the six persons – two women and
four men – were hanging on to debris floating in the water.
Reports are that the women, ages 25 and 38, and the men, 24, 31, 40 and 45
had been in the water for about one hour before they were rescued. ….MORE
